The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented crisis which has impacted many aspects to all of us in the world.
The Galapagos Islands have been one of the destinations most affected by the covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. Not so much in the health system but in its economy. It is an island that lives 90% of tourism.
The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) recognizes that Ecuador has implemented the necessary protocols to guarantee the safety and hygiene of visiting travelers.
After many months of mandatory confinement, Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands are safe to travel again.

You must use a mask during the trip on a mandatory basis.

It is the responsibility of each passenger for their well-being and personal care, for which we recommend bringing your biosecurity kit (mask and alcohol gel).
From February 12, 2022, the requirements to enter Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands will be as follows for all travelers:
Any traveler over 3 years of age must present a mandatory vaccination certificate with QR code or COVID-19 vaccination card valid with at least 14 days of validity after completing the scheme, or the negative result of a qualitative RT-PCR test in real time carried out up to 72 hours prior to boarding to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
Updated COVID-19 requierements to enter Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands from December 1, 2021:
The requirements to enter Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands will be as follows for all travelers over 2 years old:
- A vaccination certificate (with all the required doses), dated at least 14 days beforeentering Ecuador AND
- A certificate of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hoursof the flight.
NEWS: From October 23, the requirements to enter Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands will be as follows for all travelers over 2 years old:
A vaccination certificate (with all the required doses), dated at least 14 days before the Galapagos flight OR a certificate of a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of the Galapagos flight.
New Galápagos COVID-19 requirements September 1, 2021:
Travelers older than 16 years old, need to show a certificate of vaccination (with all required doses) dated at least 14 days before the flight to Galapagos. Traveleres also need to show a certificate of a negative PCR test taken up to 72 hours prior to the flight.
Travelers younger than 16 years old, need to show a certificate of vaccination (with all required doses) dated at least 14 days before the flight to Galapagos. Or the travelers need to show a certificate of a negative PCR test taken up to 72 hours prior to the flight for all travelers over 2 years of age.
Galápagos COVID-19 requierements July 15, 2021:
Travelers entering Ecuador must present:
A vaccination certificate (with all required doses), at least 14 days before the flight, or a certificate of a negative PCR test taken up to 72 hours prior to the flight for travelers over 2 years of age.
The requirements to enter Galápagos are:
A certificate of vaccination (with all required doses) dated at least 14 days before the flight to Galapagos, or a certificate of a negative PCR test taken up to 72 hours prior to the flight for travelers over 2 years of age.
Updated requirements COVID-19 for Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands (June, 2021):
From July 1, 2021, Travelers who carry a vaccination certificate, that proves they have received the complete COVID-19 vaccine doses, can enter Ecuador without a negative PCR test. The final dose must have been taken at least 14 days before travelling. Travelers that don´t have the respective vaccine, must have a negative PCR test to enter Ecuador, with a validity of up to three days before their arrival.
In order to enter the Galapagos Islands, travelers who carry a vaccination certificate, that proves they have received the complete COVID-19 vaccine doses can enter the islands without a negative PCR test.
The traveler who doesn´t have a vaccination certificate, need to present a negative result of a RT-PCR test performed up to 96 hours prior to enter the Galapagos Islands.
March 2021, Galapagos Covid-19 update:
Travelers arriving in Ecuador will be required to present a Certificate of a negative RT-PCR test. In this case, travelers will not be required to do any quarantine and will be able to continue their trip in Ecuador.
In order to enter the Galapagos Islands, travellers need to present the following. A negative result of a RT-PCR test performed up to 96 hours prior to entering the Galapagos Islands.
All Galapagos Yachts and hotels received new safety standards. These safety standards are to ensure the safest travel with cleaning and distancing measures.
The yachts and hotels have a daily deep cleaning, with higher intensity on the more frequented areas. There has been trainings in biosecurity protocols for all staff. Ship operators have also rearranged meal times, briefings and the use of common areas to support distancing.
Good News:
The first 5000 Covid-19 vaccines arrived to the Galapagos Islands on Thursday, March 11. Highly vulnerable groups will be the first ones to receive the vaccine.
Across the inhabited islands Santa Cruz, San Cristobal, Isabela and Floreana all of the vaccines will be administered. The Galapagos Islands will be the first province in Ecuador to conclude the first phase of vaccinations to reactivate the tourism on the Islands!
